Patient Access Network Foundation and National Kidney Foundation announce new alliance to provide support for people living with secondary hyperparathyroidism and hyperkalemia

Washington, DC, June 17, 2016 – The Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation and National Kidney Foundation (NKF) today announced they are launching a new alliance to offer a broad spectrum of support for people living with secondary hyperparathyroidism and hyperkalemia, conditions frequently seen in people living with chronic kidney disease. Working together, the PAN Foundation and NKF will ensure that people living with secondary hyperparathyroidism and hyperkalemia have access to both financial and patient support services, providing them with the holistic support to best manage their disease.
“Here at the PAN Foundation, we work to not only alleviate the financial pressures associated with kidney disease, but to provide patients with additional support and resources,” said PAN President and CEO Dan Klein. “Our alliance with the National Kidney Foundation will enable us to connect people with kidney disease to the education and patient support services they need to better understand and manage their conditions.”
According to the National Kidney Foundation, about 26 million Americans have kidney disease, and most don’t know it. The prevalence of secondary hyperparathyrodism and hyperkalemia is considerably higher in patients living with chronic kidney disease.
“We are thrilled to provide an additional level of support to our patients,” said National Kidney Foundation CEO Kevin Longino. “Managing kidney conditions can be complex, and even more so when you factor in the financial implications. By partnering with PAN, we can provide our patients with the latest information on financial assistance programs so they can access the best medical care possible.”
To qualify for the PAN Foundation’s secondary hyperparathyroidism and hyperkalemia programs, patients must reside and receive treatment in the United States and have Medicare health insurance, and the medication for which they seek assistance must be covered by their insurance and treat the disease directly.
