The PAN Foundation is proud to endorse the Social Determinants Accelerator Act of 2021, a bipartisan piece of legislation that will help states and local communities leverage existing programs and resources to address social determinants of health for patients, including access to food, housing, transportation, and employment. The legislation was introduced by Representatives Cheri Bustos (D-IL), Tom Cole (R-OK), Jim McGovern (D-MA), and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK).

Social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, and work that shape their health, like housing and socioeconomic status. They drive up to 80 percent of health outcomes.

“Leaving social factors unaddressed leads to preventable disparities in health status, medication adherence, and disease outcomes,” said Dan Klein, PAN Foundation President and CEO. “This legislation is a step in the right direction of acknowledging the importance of social determinants in health outcomes and providing resources to address the holistic needs of patients.”

The PAN Foundation joined Aligning for Health in endorsing the legislation. Aligning for Health is a coalition of leading health insurers, providers, and vendors who recognize that health is connected to more than just access to clinical services.

The PAN Foundation is committed to advocating for policies that address social determinants of health and mitigate barriers that prevent patients from accessing their treatment.
